If you want to improve your health, wellness, and vitality, it all starts with healing your body and mind. From the inside out. This is exactly what emotional freedom technique, or EFT Tapping, can do for you.
I’ve been using Tapping for quite some time to help with my own anxieties, eczema, and chronic TMJ ear pain.
And my goodness, it WORKS! Honestly I have tried just about everything my doctors suggested to help with the awful ear pain I’ve endured since I was diagnosed with TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) in January 2011.
I’ve tried painkillers, physio, arthrocentesis, botox, chiropractic adjustment, cortisone injections directly into my jaw, rhinoplasty, tonsillectomy, electroacupuncture, to name but a few and nothing seemed to make any difference. Nothing that is, until I started Tapping on it.

Now, to be completely honest, when I first heard about Tapping I thought it was a load of woo-woo nonsense.
I felt quite silly tapping on my face and body like a monkey. But I was desperate and figured what the heck, what harm could it do, right!? And I am so glad I didn’t allow my first impressions to sway me from trying and sticking with it. Not only has tapping helped with my chronic ear pain, but it has also reduced my eczema flare-ups and helped me manage my anxiety.
Am I completely cured? I regret no, however, when I start to feel anxious, the ear pain rears its ugly head, the tinnitus becomes too loud, or I feel that sting in my fingers telling me my eczema is about to erupt, I take a deep breath, find a quiet space and allow myself a few moments to relax and ‘tap on it’. When doing this I give my mind permission to go wherever it needs to go and I say whatever comes up for me. Most often, within minutes I can start to feel my anxiety ease, the pressure in my ear release, the ringing quietens or the burn calms.
I was very surprised to learn how emotional triggers were causing physical symptoms in me through the ear pain and eczema. There’s still a lot of work for me and there are a lot of trapped emotions that I need to work through. I can, however, honestly say that this technique provides me more relief than any other treatment I have tried.

Here are some things to know about what EFT is, how it works, and why you should try it.
So what is EFT Tapping?
EFT Tapping is a form of holistic therapy that combines principles of traditional Chinese accupressure with modern psychology. It helps calm your mind and body, improving your mental and physical health and wellbeing. It is effective in helping to relax your nervous system thereby decreasing stress, calming fears, soothing emotions and lowering anxiety. If you have generalised anxiety disorder or struggle with other emotional issues, EFT can be tremendously helpful.
EFT tapping uses the meridian points in your body, similar to acupressure. Through tapping on these points on your body, EFT can help release emotions, and relax your body and mind. It creates a balance in your nervous system. It is believed that negative emotions are rooted in an imbalance of energy in your body. The principle behind it is that we are able to maintain good health through our own internal balancing (energy) system. The more you practice tapping, the more effective it tends to be at restoring that internal energetic balance.

How does it Work?
EFT works similar to acupuncture except that rather than stimulating the meridian points by using needles, you “tap” on the meridian points on your body using your fingers. There are 12 meridians on either side of your body each of which are close to different internal organs. With EFT, the following are typically used:
- Side of the hand (Karate chop)
- Top of the head
- Eyebrow
- Side of the eye
- Under the eye
- Under the nose
- Under the mouth
- Top of collarbone
- Under the arm
It doesn’t really matter what tapping sequence you use. Most commonly you would start from the top of your head and move down your body in consecutive order. You can find free videos that show you different tapping sequences and scripts depending on what you are hoping to achieve. EFT truly can be used for anything including reducing anxiety, trying to eat healthier to lose weight or dealing with pain.
Why should you try EFT Tapping?
EFT is painless and it’s easy to do, either with a trained practitioner or by learning the technique yourself.
One of the primary reasons people like to use tapping is for their emotional or mental health, however, there are many benefits of EFT.
Tapping has been shown to relieve negative feelings that are taking a toll on the mind and body, including
- chronic stress
- overwhelm
- anxiety
- worry
- fear
- sadness
- anger
- panic disorders
- depression
In addition to these benefits, tapping can be used to help stop emotional eating, treat phobias, reduce and relieve chronic pain and discomfort, and improve your health and wellness in general. In fact, it has been proven to lower cortisol levels, improve sleep, increase productivity, and provide relief from traumatic memories or negative emotions.
